Friday Is Rock'n'Roll #London Day: #U2 In London

Friday is Rock'n'Roll London Day! Join the Rock'n'Roll London walk this (and every Friday) afternoon at 2:00p.m meeting at Tottenham Court Road Station

Adam writes…

With two Rock'n'Roll London Walk this weekend (today, Friday at 2pm and tomorrow Saturday at 2.30pm) I'm looking forward to welcoming U2 fans to the tour. The Irish giants are playing a brace of gigs at Twickenham this weekend.

We'll be chatting about U2 on both tours when we get to the old Marquee club. U2 now play venues the size of small countries, but back in 1980 they made an early UK appearance at the Marquee.

Their first appearance of British soil, on 4th December 1980, was in a pub - The Hope & Anchor in Islington…

… playing to nine people and mis-billed as "The U2s". Guitarist The Edge broke a string and the gig ended early. Next night – billed at V2 (!) – the band played the Rock Garden in Covent Garden.

Here's how they looked and sounded way back then. Warning: this vid contains shots of The Edge with hair…

Here's the trailer for THIS AFTERNOON'S Rock'n'Roll London Walk which meets at 2pm Tottenham Court Road station (exit 1). We'll be going again on Saturday at 2.30pm from the same place.

A London Walk costs £10 – £8 concession. To join a London Walk, simply meet your guide at the designated tube station at the appointed time. Details of all London Walks can be found at www.walks.com.
